1. Is olive oil high in calories and makes me fatter?

Olive oil has 9 calories per gram of oil, which is the same as all salad oils. .It has been demonstrated that an olive-oil-rich diet leads to greater and longer-lasting weight loss than a low-fat diet.  It is accepted better because it tastes good and it is a stimulus to eat vegetables.

2. Does olive oil contain cholesterol?

No. Olive oil is cholesterol free.

3. Why do olive oils, even those that are of the same grade, taste differently?

The type of olive used, the climate and soil conditions where the olives are grown, as well as extracting methods, and above all, men care, all affect how olive oil will eventually taste and smell.

4. If a recipe calls merely for “olive oil”, how do I know which type to use: extra-virgin, pure or simply olive oil, refined, pomace,…?

In general, if you want to taste the delicate flavour of the oil in your food, add extra virgin to your salads and mezzes dishes, and at the final stages of cooking and let the taste be always your guide.

5. How should I store my olive oil?

Store your olive oil in an airtight container away from the light in a cold place, such as in a cupboard.  Note that olive oil’s consistency, thickness, and color may change when temperatures drop, and on the other hand may become clearer if temperatures became high.  If this happens, let the olive oil come to room temperature and you can use it again.
